It finally happened. It took long enough, but it certainly makes the 2008 season somewhat more diverse than recent years.
In case you didn't know, Sebastian Vettel took the pole at Monza yesterday. It took most people by surprise, including me. This was the first surprise, only for me to discover Kimi Räikkönen, the reigning world champion, was not even in the top 10. He struggled back in 14th position ahead of the other surprise - Lewis Hamilton in 15th place. Both men have far superior cars underneath them, yet the 'customer car' of Ferrari, the STR beat them all.
It is a welcome change in my opinion. Hamilton is often cited as the fresh change, but when you think about it - he has the best car on the grid. Most of the current drivers could do what he is doing had they been given the same opportunities as that luckly kid. Hence Heikki Kovalainen will start the race in 2nd position. Mark Webber proved his worth once more, and will start the race from 3rd place. However he doesn't push hard enough and lacks 'race agression' which he needs to bring home the podiums.
I doubt anyone will read this, so I may write more later.
